Who came up with this idea of the Jones’? People talk about crimes to humanity and refer to the holocaust. Personally I believe that the Jones’ should go and make a turn in front of the Nuremberg court.

Being a financial planner, I see on a daily basis how people are killing themselves by poisoning their life-blood: cashflow… Our spending habits are so rotten and we are not recognising the symptoms. I have quite recently discovered homeopathy, and I must admit that I love the idea of treating the system as a whole. So many financial guru’s have all the great ideas about investing in this and that and the following, and then claiming to be wealth creators.

If we don’t curb our spending on the toys rather than the “value-adds” we will come to financial ruin. Your cash-flow patterns can instantly show me a whole lot about your personality and even your character.  Most of us are too impressed by the act of spending, and I believe this stems from living empty lives. Before you get upset – hear me out…

We are living in a society which measures your perceived wealth by your spending, size of house, size of car, location of house(s), and number of toys. Occasionally people will be impressed by the number of investments, but we hardly talk about these. Now I’m not talking about “investment” properties that are mortgaged, but real investments that are not costing money. most of us want our peers’ admiration and thus pursue this admiration.

If instead we just start implementing the age-old principle of spending less than what we earn, and finding value in the relationships in our lives rather than in the act of spending, we will all be so much more the wealthier, and only then can we really start creating true financial wealth…

Ok, that’s my rant for now, but mull it over. I think you’ll find I’m right.
